These earrings are something truly special.
I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to acquire several of these extraordinary stones from a talented artist during one of her limited releases. Each stone is a small work of art, combining Montana agate, carnelian agate, and flowing sterling silver through a technique called Kintarsia.
Developed entirely by the artist, Kintarsia is a technique inspired by both intarsia and kintsugi, bringing together contrasting materials in a way that celebrates the natural beauty of the stone while making the seams and transitions part of the artwork itself.
For these earrings, the Kintarsia stones are backed with translucent Ochoco agate. I carefully hand-cut each sterling silver backplate to open up the area behind the stone, allowing light to pass through the Ochoco agate and illuminate the stone from behind. The result is a beautiful sense of depth and movement that changes as the earrings catch the light.
I paired these remarkable stones with natural blue kyanite for its striking color and the way it complements the warm tones of the Montana and carnelian agate.
The two stones are intentionally hung in opposite directions, creating an unexpected asymmetry that lets each piece reveal itself differently. They aren't meant to match perfectly and that's exactly what makes them special.
Handcrafted in sterling silver, these earrings are one of a kind. No two Kintarsia stones are ever exactly alike, and once these are gone, there will never be another pair quite like them.
